Treatment

2nd January 2016

Make up & Costume

During the part of our music video when our artist is performing, to begin with we want our artist to have natural and everyday looking make up. This will allow her to be relatable to our audience.

During the lip sync part of our music video we want our artist is appear upset with bruises, cuts and smudge make up. We decided on this as it is a visual representation of how the break up is effecting her and that she is beating herself up over it.

While our artist is not lip syncing we thought she should be in casual clothes. This will allow the audience to relate to her as she will appear like an every day person.

We decided that our character would have wavy hair as it is fairly natural and will fit with our characters overall appearance.

Setting

We decided that a large tree would be appropriate for our music video as we want to have our performer sat by the tree alone. By her being alone it connotes her isolation and the tree fits with the indie genre that typically the setting is naturalistic.

We have also decided to film in a small alleyway. The alleyway will represent no escape as the narrowness of the setting adds to the representation of the performer being isolated.

We decided on using a field for our music video. We plan for the field to be deserted when we film so that our performer will look alone in a large space, once again showing her separation from life.

This other area in the field will be used for a long shot of the artist going into a mid shot. We thought this area would be a good decision for our music video as the trees in the background will appear mysterious when we add the gray scale effect while editing.

Editing

When deciding on ideas for our music video, i suggested the idea of the female beating herself up. By this i mean the pain she feel inside being physically projected onto her body for the audience to see the resemblance. From this i suggested that an editing technique we could use is the use of fast / slow image manipulation in which our artist will appear as if she has been punched however as there is no one else present it will create the effect that it is produced by her own hurt. While researching this idea i found a music video that has a similar effcet to our idea. The video is shown to the right and the effect is presented at 55 seconds in.

As a group we decided that some of our shots should be in grayscale. The use of the black and white filter will create a sad atmosphere to our music video however it will also connote our song. As our song is called lovers or liars the contrast between the positivity in the word lovers and the negativity within the word liars will be represented in the difference between the positive connotations of the colour white and the negation connotations of the colour black as typically white represents hope and pureness where black stereotypically connotes danger and darkness.

Camerawork

For our camerawork we have decided on using a range of different shots in order to give our music video variation and keep the audience interested. The main camerashots we will use are close ups. The close ups will be used for the lip syncing parts o our video when our artist is against a white / plain wall. The close up will allow the concentration to be on her nvc of facial expressions and the effects of brusing and tears on her face. Other shots we will use include long shots in order to establish setting, mid shots to show our artists confusion and isolation. Panning around will show the corruption of the girls life. Other shots including extreme close ups and establishing shots will be used to show props and the setting.

This outfit will be worn during the lip syncing parts of our video, the white shirt will connote the performers vulnerbility and will help allow the audience to emphasise with her.

This outfit will be worn during the narrative shots as they are mainly outside.

The setting for the lip syncing part of the music video is going to b this white screen. The white background allows for the focus to be purely on the performer during her performance as we want her emotion to be shown to the audience.
